So my little girl has a curvature of the spine problem and we through an article in Maclean's discovered a doctor in Montreal that had developed a brace that may help her. Now the problem with this was that this brace had been developed 15 years ago and not one of the doctors my youngest saw in Calgary had ever mentioned it and now it is too late in her growth for the brace to make any difference in the curvature but it will help with pain. Really bugs me that this brace is used and covered by 30 countries around the world but where it was invented it isn't even recognized.
So we were in Quebec skiing and I arranged for the Doctor to see us while we were there and see what this brace was all about. He was kind of enough to fit us in the day before he headed to France to, you guessed it, talk about the brace. Long story short we decided to go ahead with the brace and pick up the cost ourselves. So May long weekend she flys into Montreal with her mom and I meet them there. We spend a couple of hours getting fitted with the brace and Jen headed back with me to spend the weekend.
She has since being wearing it and for the first couple of months she needs to wear it as much as she can (20 hours a day if possible). We go back in July to see how things are going and if there needs to be any adjustment to the brace. She has played soccer in it and says there is no problem and it actually helps with the pain the next day so that is all good news. So now it just a matter of her keeping it on as much as she should once the novelty wears off.
